To mark the 10th anniversary of the Hellenic Evaluation Society (HES), a collective volume by Panagiotis E. Petrakis, Paraskevi V. Boufounou, and Pantelis Ch. Kotsis titled "The Political Economy of Evaluation in Greece: Interdisciplinary Perspectives for an Inclusive and Forward-Looking Evaluation" (ISBN 978-3-031-60720-2) has been published.
The aim of this publication is to enrich the literature on evaluation, focusing on the interplay between politics, economics, and evaluation. With a particular emphasis on Greece, it examines how evaluations across various sectors influence policymaking and what this implies for sustainable development.
The book features contributions from 47 authors across 10 countries. Through interdisciplinary perspectives, it addresses the evaluation of economic policies for inclusive and forward-looking public policymaking. Its 20 chapters revisit the concept of evaluation to ensure its relevance in addressing contemporary economic challenges.
Nobel Laureate Economist and Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Christopher Pissarides, praised the book, stating:
«This book contains a comprehensive and accessible discussion of the principles behind policy selection and the evaluation of past policies that should be invaluable to policymakers and to everyone else interested in the role of policy in promoting social and economic wellbeing. The focus of several chapters is Greece since the financial crisis, but there is a lot more in it and it should be equally beneficial to policymakers and others located elsewhere in Europe and beyond».
This collective volume on the political economy of evaluation is part of the book series «The Political Economy of Greek Growth up to 2030»,
published by Palgrave Macmillan. The series editor is Emeritus Professor Panagiotis Petrakis from the Department of Economics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
The book is available on the publisher's website and through online bookstores.
